Prayer retreat day – An Empty Plate.

We filled our paper plates with favourite foods and talked about the difference between needing food and eating food that we like. We linked this to the topic of Harvest and how our Harvest donations were being given to people in need of food, who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We made many poppies in different ways as a way of remembering soldiers who have died in the war. We were particularly proud of our poppies made from plastic bottles. These made part of our whole school display.

We have been working very hard on reading and writing in Year one. We have enjoyed reading some traditional tales. We used the characters to make masks, write descriptions and also re-told the story. Here is our story map of the Three Billy Gaats Gruff which was our favourite!

Science in Year 1B.

We worked together to complete an experiment to find out which materials are waterproof. It was the cellophane!

In Year 1B we studied the book ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon for 3 weeks.  We read the story page by page talking about Beegu’s feelings and making predictions.  We wrote a sentence about the story each day and eventually retold the story in our own words.

Practical maths in Year 1B.

We often work practically during maths, discussing what we are doing with our friends and teachers using lots of maths talk.
